Best Area to Stay in Syros Greece
In Syros, your main decision will be if you want to stay in Ermoupolis, the capital port town of Syros, or if you prefer to rent a car in Ermoupolis and stay on one of the many beaches in Syros. It will still depend on your budget and preferences when it comes to the view, cultural experiences, and other things you look for in a place.
But for most people, Ermoupoli (aka Ermoupolis) is the best area to stay in Syros. It is the capital of Syros and therefore has a lot of amenities to offer. Ermoupolis has many tourist attractions, restaurants, shops, and lets you learn the history and experience the culture of Syros. Plus it is the main port town with easy access to ferries and yachts, as well as many swim spots walking distance in town.
The next popular area to stay in is Galissas. It’s a pretty beach town where you can relax by yourself or with your whole family. Galissas is typically a calm, shallow beach-front, making it nice for relaxing and is family-friendly.
What is Syros Greece known for?
Syros is known for its architecture, beautiful beaches, culture, and culinary experience. It’s one of the top destinations for travelers looking for a picturesque place where they can relax by the beach while enjoying amazing cuisines.
Make sure to check out Ano Syros hilltop village, iconic St Nicholas Church, and taste the Loukoumi in Syros, a traditional Syros treat, which is popular in all the waterfront shops.
Is Syros worth seeing?
Yes! Syros is worth visiting whether for a solo trip, family vacation, or fun break with friends.
This small town is considered one of the hidden gems near the Aegean Sea. It’s also safe, affordable, and less touristy than other more famous Greek Islands. But even if it’s less popular, Syros is easily accessible from Athens.
Is Ermoupoli worth visiting?
Yes! Although it’s not one of the most famous destinations in Greece, Ermoupoli still offers a lot of enjoyable things to do and amazing places to visit.
It’s also one of the prettiest cities in Greece with its pastel-colored, neoclassical buildings. This can be a welcome change in view since other Cycladic towns and villages are predominantly white and blue most of the time. And because Ermoupoli is not crowded with tourists, it keeps its authentic vibe which can give you a glimpse of the locals’ normal everyday lives.
How many days do you need in Syros? (how many days should I spend in Syros?)
I suggest staying in Syros for a minimum of three days. This will be enough time to explore some of the best things that Syros has to offer, including Ermoupolis, Ano Syros and the many beaches.
Is Syros a party island?
No, not really. You can absolutely enjoy nightlife and partying both Ermoupolis and at the beaches at Ono Concept Syros, but if you’re looking for a party island, you’ll find Mykonos to draw the crowds of partiers.
